The Instant Shoulder Drop: How to Release "Tech Neck" Using Acupressure Point GB21

Does it feel like your shoulders are permanently glued to your ears? If you spend more than four hours a day at a laptop or looking at a phone, you are likely experiencing "stagnant Qi"—a TCM term for energy that has become stuck due to poor posture and repetitive stress.

The Anatomy of Tension: Meet GB21
Located at the highest point of your shoulder muscle, midway between your neck and the edge of your shoulder, lies Gallbladder 21 (GB21), also known as Jianjing or the "Shoulder Well."

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this point is the primary "release valve" for the upper body. When we are stressed, our energy rises, causing tension headaches, tight jaws, and raised shoulders. By stimulating GB21, we encourage that energy to descend, resulting in what we call "The Instant Shoulder Drop."

How to Perform the Reset at Home
To get the most out of this point, we recommend using a tool with weight and cooling properties, like the Redmint Tiger’s Eye Gua Sha.

Prep: Apply a heavy body cream or oil to the base of your neck and shoulders to create "glide."

The Stroke: Using the curved edge of your Gua Sha, start at the side of the neck and pull firmly downward directly over the peak of the shoulder.

The Breath: As you stroke downward, take a deep exhale. Visualize the tension melting off your shoulders and into the floor.

Repeat: Perform 5–10 strokes on each side.

Experience the Transformation
Fixing "Tech Neck" isn't just about aesthetics; it’s about opening the flow of oxygen and blood to the brain, improving focus, and reducing cortisol.
